Hi all,
Fostex offers new BK-series kit enclosures, see:
http://www.fostex.jp/p/enclosure/
The interesting thing is that they have the horn opening at the back, a bit like the Lowther Fidelio. Which is interesting if you have 2 open corners to further extend the horn effect.
But, despite searching quite a bit, I was not able to find plans. Esp. the BK166En and Bk202En enclosures interest me. They do look better to me than a classic front facing horn.
Does anyone have access to these plans?
Tom

maybe planet10 knows (?) (how about Larry Hitch at Madisound?) - couldn't locate anything. From the descriptions I gather the following for the new 206 enclosures:
BK206En BLH 800mm high x 280mm wide x 396mm deep with a 1.75M path, 10L chamber, 145Hz lowpass - then E202B is a simple bass reflex (?) 440mm x 260mm x 265mm with Fb= 55Hz

Well frankly, unless these are a significant improvement over many of the "recommended" designs for previous versions of the FExx6 or FE/AV series which I've experienced, there could easily be better enclosures authored by a wide range of DIYers.
Then there's the matter of how accurate are the newly published T/S parameters? This had been cause for much frustration in the past for those who like to model performance in software emulation programs, and designed enclosures before drivers were in hand or fully broken in for final measurements.

that BLH looks close in size to BK20 - re:FE206En - without any break-in I got the following Qs - didn't bother to get Vas as it was going into an old Karlson coupler
Fs & Q's for FE206en - no break-in

I agree with Chris about the Fostex "recommended" cabinet designs. Almost all of the ones that I've heard weren't, quite frankly, that impressive and I've heard many of the enclosure designs that Dave (Planet10) and Chris have on the Planet10 website which are, IMHO, considerably better.
In fact, the only Fostex (non-Planet10) design that I've heard, that I thought was pretty good, was the BB Front loaded horn w/Super Tweeter that somebody brought to the last Vancouver Island DIY Fest. I listened to it for some time out on the front (ground level) area and felt it sounded pretty nice.
I don't remember who brought it, but perhaps Chrisby can chime in on this.

The new enclosure looks a lot better than the "classic" one for the 206E, as it's more slender.
Perhaps it's only available as an expensive kit. But the old BK series plans were available.

Still no plans found?

I may have heard them too, but am drawing a blank on a front loaded horn, may Dave can recall or has pictures?
edit:
well a little googling and, is this the one?
if so, I think those were Bob's FE166ESR in recommended Fostex enclosure - one of their better driver & designs IMHO

Yes, that is what they were. The drivers are VERY good, the horns sounded very good, but i can't help but think the cabinet may still be holding them back. Bob, with far too many speakers, is selling these rediculously cheap.
