Have anyone here seen the Tang Band W8-1772 8 inch fullrange driver with neodymium magnets? It looks like it has some serious potentail to me. Check it out here: http://tinyurl.com/SETriodes12
If Nature Abhors A Vacuum, Why Do Vacuum Tubes Sound So Damn Good?
Yes. Assuming the specs are consistent (Tang Band's had issues with this), they should be excellent drivers. The higher Qts lower efficiency 1808 looks like the better of the two, with more Xmax and more flexibility for box design. Neither of them are as efficient as claimed, looking at the response curves they're using rising response to claim more than they get.
But should be very nice drivers. Pretty costly though, $400 buys a lot of raw driver. There's plenty of units to consider at that pricepoint.
"Assuming the specs are consistent"
they are not.

less is more
I have a pair of W8-1772's on order. I should have them next week. I'll report T/S numbers as soon as possible. Modeling of the published specs indicate that the 1772 will drop into my FT-2000 cabinet designed for the FE207E. I can then compare the 1772, FE207E and Lowther DX3. THAT report may take a while.
Should be interesting.
I have done some preliminary listening and done some FR plots. Rather than post to every forum I visit, I will post all further information on the TB W8-1772 at diyAudio/Full Range -- http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=150267
